An ecological educational experience

An ecological educational experience Everyday events can easily be turned into interesting, informal, educational experiences. The cactus plants in our plantations were infested with aphids called the "Atzbarit". It was likely that this pest would eliminate all of the wonderful purple "sabres" cactus plants we had planted. We looked for different ways to control the pest. Since we prefer ecological solutions, we looked for an environmentally friendly form of pest control. We found a group that develops biological solutions for the aphid targeting our cacti in Kibbutz Sde Eliyahu. With their help we realized that the ladybird beetle is a natural predator of this aphid, and would help us solve our aphid problem. And here began the experience - we took our "older" grandchildren after an intense "theoretical" preparation using the internet and our encyclopedia of insects. We waited anxiously ask a b.o.b representative and then went off to the plantations. The rest you can see in pictures ... Notice the sparkle in our grandchildren's bright enthusiastic eyes!
